A picture is worth a thousand words, as the saying goes. Using images in marketing social posts has almost become essential in order to attract attention in an increasingly overcrowded stream of news and information. It’s not a new thing though as advertising across the years, before the age of online and digital, has always used images to grab attention. Now it seems Twitter, with its new Stickers function, is making it even easier to spread the word through images!
Following on from removing image links from the 140 character limit, Twitter is now introducing Stickers – fun icons that you can overlay onto your image when posting. If it sounds a lot like Snapchat, then you’d be right, but there’s an extra dimension: the stickers are indexed and searchable, so if you click on one you will be shown other images that are using the same sticker.
For businesses this represents a fresh new way to increase visibility by enabling your images to show up in searchable streams. Hopefully there will be some useful and relevant stickers to choose from though, and not just sunglasses and smiley faces! As with emoticons this could be something that makes its way into the social marketing discussion as brands continue to search for new ways to stand out from the crowd!
