SEO Summary May 2013
Google’s Penguin 2.0 rolled out this month and naturally there are lots of views on how to stay above the new algorithm change. Vertical Measures have compiled an excellent resource listing some of the best advice on Penguin 2.0.
One that stood out from the above resource was from Eric Enge at Search Engine Watch regarding link building. Great explanation going forward, but more importantly, lists 4 questions to ask when deciding to add a link to your article.
We also appreciated the humour behind website HasPenguinHitYet.com, complete with ‘Matt Cutts deserves nofollow’ link
In keeping with the Penguin update, Search Engine Journal has an in depth guide to dealing with unnatural links.

The very swish looking Moz site (was SEOMoz, but they had a site makeover and dropped the SEO) has what seems at first an amusing post titled ‘How my Mom thinks Search Engines work’. Behind it though are some key points worth considering.
Moz also published a simply amazing SEO guide, listing 25 steps and lots of tips. Just awesome – You have to read….
Search Engine Watch list ten plugins to improve SEO and usability on a WordPress site. There are some here that we at Orbital swear by.
So Yahoo bought Tumbler for $1.1 Billion….good business? Business Insider thinks so, here’s why.
Social Media Summary May 2013
It was always going to happen wasn’t it? Google + is now ‘outpacing’ Twitter and has become the second most used social network, according to Business Insider.
Jeff Bullas lists 21 awesome Social Media facts, such as ‘The number of people accessing the internet via a mobile phone increasing by 60.3% to 818.4 million in the last 2 years’. JB breaks down the stats by most social networks. There’s a few surprises in there.
Social Media Examiner did a great post on Facebook cover images for brand pages – how to use them effectively and how to be compliant.
We love this…Search Engine Watch give us 22 Facebook community management tips such as ‘The interaction rate for posts on weekends is 14.5 percent higher compared to weekday posts, however only 14 percent of posts are published on Saturdays and Sundays’. Some valuable advice.
